How big of a dumpster should I rent?

Typical sizes for common projects
Small bathroom remodels will usually only require a 10 cubic yard unit, but if you’re doing a larger bathroom and you don’t want to worry about packing every square inch of available space in your dumpster, you should be fine with a 20 cubic yard container.
If you’re thinking about going through your garage and doing a big cleanout, you’re probably going to require a 10 cubic yard unit, perhaps 15 if you’ve been hoarding junk for many years.
Depending on the size of your house, people gearing up for a whole house cleanout will usually require a 15 or 20 cubic yard dumpster. Larger homes can go as high as 30 cubic yard units.
Obviously, a complete demolition project, say an old two-car garage, will most likely require the largest unit possible if you want to get it taken care of in one fell swoop. If you’re working in a tight space and have limited room for a dumpster, you’ll need to go with a smaller unit, but you can make arrangements with the company you rent from to schedule pickups and replacements until the job is completed.
Not many homeowners are willing to tackle a whole house renovation project on their own, but if you’re one of those rare birds, you’ll also require the 30 cubic yard container.
