A home remodeling project is generally prefaced with a good amount of planning. You do your research on various designs, get excited about the appliances or furniture you’re going to bring to the project, and choose materials that will transform your room or your entire home.
But, what about the waste associated with a remodeling project? How can you save time managing the waste and spend more time actually tackling your project?
Bags aren’t an option
Some DIY remodeling projects include purchasing heavy duty trash bags where a majority the refuse will go, either hauled to the street corner bit by bit, or into the back of a truck where it will be hauled off to the local landfill one load at a time. Unfortunately, this can be a huge waste of time. Furthermore, you won’t be able to fit large items or sharp items into those bags. The better choice is to rent a dumpster.
Is your project going to involve a large variety of waste types? This requires a good amount of sorting, which can be time consuming.
Forking over tipping fees every time you drop off a load at the landfill can add up. Your waste disposal company might also charge you extra for all those bags you’re taking to the curb (some won’t even pick them up). Rather than waste time and money on these tasks, you could be spending more time on your remodel by simply parking a dumpster out front.
Bringing a dumpster to the site
Some might say that having a dumpster within close proximity to your work site allows you to be lazy and productive all at once. For instance, if you’re converting your garage into a shop, all you have to do is have the dumpster parked right in front of the garage and you simply toss whatever waste you have into it.
This way, you’re skipping the whole bag and carry task, and simply taking a few steps to throw whatever you want into the bin. Or, if you project is located on a second or third floor, park the unit under the window and instead of walking down hundreds of pounds of waste, you just throw it out the window and into the receptacle.
When you rent from a waste disposal company, they do all the heavy lifting, so to speak. For example, you choose a day to have it dropped off. Once you’ve filled the dumpster, you call the company and they take it away for you. If you’re tackling a large project, they can even drop one off and take away your full one. This can be a huge time saver, especially for the larger remodeling or clean out projects.
Let the dumpster company do the heavy lifting
Is your project going to involve a large variety of waste types? This requires a good amount of sorting, which can be time consuming. However, when you rent a roll away unit, your waste management company will do the sorting for you. Again, this gives you more time to focus on your remodel instead of outgoing waste.
